Decarbonising this sector is thus essential if we are to achieve the carbon neutrality goal of the European Union, which has voted to ban the sale of new internal combustion vehicles from 2035.

Against this backdrop, the French government has set itself the target of producing two million electric vehicles a year in France by 2030. Support for private individuals (zero-interest loans, conversion bonuses, social leasing) and manufacturers has been put in place (France Relance, France 2030) to facilitate the promotion of more sustainable vehicles.
Batteries made in France
Battery manufacturing plants (gigafactories) are springing up in France to meet demand from carmakers. In France, the first plant was inaugurated in Douvrin, Pas-De-Calais, in 2023, the first of four sites planned for the future electric “battery valley” in this former mining region of northern France.
