Imerys continues the EMILI project and makes several commitments following the public debate

Following the public debate organized by the Commission nationale du débat public (CNDP), Imerys confirms its intention to continue the EMILI project. The Group also makes a number of commitments and responds to the expectations expressed during the debate.

Broad participation

The very rich and dynamic public meetings (over 3,600 participants and almost 600 contributions) confirmed the interest in the ecological transition in general, and this project in particular. At the end of the debate, the independent Commission published a number of recommendations to which Imerys is now responding.

Pursuing an exemplary and responsible project with concrete commitments

First of all, Imerys confirms its determination to pursue the EMILI project by ensuring that it fits in well with the local environment and by maintaining a transparent, regular dialogue with the public. The Group has made a number of commitments, including

  • abandoning feldspar production to significantly reduce the use of chemicals at the Beauvoir site;
  • examining an alternative location for the loading plant, to ensure that it blends in with the surrounding area;
  • the continuation of in-depth studies to control and reduce environmental impact. The results will be presented to the public on a regular basis;
  • the presentation of studies and progress on the project through public information and participation bodies (site committees).

Ongoing consultation

In addition to informing the public about the results of the environmental impact studies, Imerys undertakes to pursue dialogue and keep local populations, citizens, elected representatives and associations informed through ongoing consultation, under the aegis of the guarantor(s) appointed by the National Commission for Public Debate.
