The EMILI project added to the list of European Strategic Projects

In a decision published today, the European Union (EU) recognises the strategic nature of the EMILI project, which has been added to the list of Strategic Projects under the Critical Raw Material Act.

This list of 47 flagship projects embodies the EU's desire to strengthen and secure its local supply of critical metals serving strategic industrial sectors (energy transition, digital, defence, aerospace).

We are very honoured by this recognition of the significant role played by EMILI in guaranteeing European sovereignty and contributing to the success of the energy transition.

The EU is thus recognising the importance of the project in meeting the future growth in demand for rare metals, particularly lithium (which is expected to increase sevenfold between now and 2050), and the challenges of decarbonising the economy and combating climate change.

In parallel with this recognition, the EMILI project continues to follow the authorisation process provided for under French law, in particular the Environmental Code (investigation by government departments, opinion of the environmental authority, public enquiry, etc.) and the Mining Code for the mining concession application.
